Public Transport Routes to the Yorkshire Dales from York
To Wharfedale (Dales Way) – Bolton Abbey, Barden, Burnsall, Grassington, Kettlewell and Buckden

Weekdays: Harrogate Line train to Harrogate then bus X59 from Harrogate to Bolton Bridge (Devonshire Arms) for short walk to Bolton Abbey or to connect with bus 74 for Barden, Burnsall and Grassington (connections with bus 72 for Kettlewell and Buckden).

Summer Sundays and Bank Holidays:  Bus 800 from York to Bolton Abbey, Barden, Burnsall, Grassington, Kettlewell and Buckden, or bus 812 from York to Grassington.

Selected Winter Sundays and Bank Holidays:  Bus X52 from York to Ilkley, for connecting DalesBus 874 to Bolton Abbey, Barden, Burnsall, Grassington, Kettlewell and Buckden.

To Malhamdale – Gargrave, Airton, Kirkby Malham and Malham (Pennine Way)

Daily: train to Leeds then Leeds-Settle-Carlisle/ Morecambe train to Gargrave.

Mondays to Saturdays: train to Leeds then Airedale Line train to Skipton then bus 210/211 from Skipton Bus Station to Gargrave, Airton, Kirkby Malham and Malham

Selected Winter Sundays and Bank Holidays:  Bus X52 from York to Ilkley, for connecting DalesBus 883 to Gargrave, Airton, Kirkby Malham and Malham.

To Ribblesdale (Pennine Way, Dales Way, Ribble Way, Pennine Bridleway) – Hellifield, Long Preston, Settle, Horton-in-Ribblesdale, Ribblehead and Garsdale

Daily to all above stations: train to Leeds then Leeds-Settle-Carlisle line train

To Western Dales and Ingleton (Giggleswick, Austwick, Clapham and Ingleton)

Daily: train to Leeds then Leeds-Skipton-Morecambe line train to Giggleswick and Clapham (NB Clapham Station is 1¼ miles (2km) from village)

Mondays to Saturdays: train to Leeds then Leeds-Settle-Carlisle line to Settle then bus 581 from Settle Market Place for Austwick, Clapham village and Ingleton

To Dentdale and Sedbergh

Daily: train to Leeds then Leeds-Settle-Carlisle line train to Dent (NB Dent Station is 4½ miles (7 km) from Dent village)

Summer Saturdays: train to Leeds then Leeds-Settle-Carlisle line to Dent Station for connecting bus 564A to Dent and Sedbergh

To Swaledale - Richmond, Reeth, Gunnerside, Muker, Thwaite and Keld

Weekdays: Any train to Darlington then buses 27, X27, 28, X28 from Darlington Station to Richmond, for bus 30 to Reeth, Gunnerside, Muker and Keld.

To Wensleydale: Leyburn, Middleham, Aysgarth, Redmire, Askrigg, Castle Bolton, Bainbridge and Hawes

Weekdays: TransPennine train from York to Northallerton for bus 73 to Leeming Bar (for Wensleydale Railway) and Bedale for connecting bus 156/157 to Leyburn (weekday connection with bus 159 for Middleham, Masham and Ripon), Redmire, Castle Bolton, Askrigg, Aysgarth, Bainbridge and Hawes.

Weekdays: Bus 142/146 from York to Ripon and then bus 159 to Masham, Middleham, Leyburn and Richmond

Summer Sundays and Bank Holidays: train to Leeds then Leeds-Settle-Carlisle line to Ribblehead then bus 832 from Ribblehead to Hawes

Summer Sundays and Bank Holidays:  Bus 812 from York to Ripon, then bus 820 to Masham, Middleham, Leyburn and Richmond

Summer Sundays and Bank Holidays:  Bus 800 from York to Aysgarth, Bainbridge and Hawes

To Nidderdale – Darley, Summerbridge, Pateley Bridge and Fountains Abbey

Daily: Harrogate Line train from York to Harrogate then bus 24 to Darley, Summerbridge and Pateley Bridge

Weekdays and Summer Sundays: Bus 142/146 from York to Ripon, then Ripon Roweller bus 139 to Fountains Abbey

Summer Sundays and Bank Holidays:  Bus 812 from York to Fountains Abbey and Pateley Bridge

To Washburn Valley: Blubberhouses

Weekdays: Harrogate Line train from York to Harrogate then bus X59 from Harrogate to Skipton via Blubberhouses and Bolton Bridge
