NYCC Bus Service Funding Cuts
Friday 08 April 2011
North Yorkshire County Council has decided to withdraw funding for evening and Sunday bus services throughout the county from 17th April 2011.
Fortunately the impact on the Yorkshire Dales area will be mitigated by the introduction of new services, for the summer period, managed by the Dales & Bowland Community Interest Company.
The key changes are:
- services 156 and 157 (Northallerton - Leyburn - Hawes - Gayle) will no longer operate on Sundays and Bank Holidays, but will be replaced on those days by Wensleydale Flyer service 856 (Northallerton - Leyburn - Hawes). The Wensleydale Flyer will take a more direct route along Wensleydale.
- service 66A (Keighley - Skipton - Grassington) will no longer extend beyond Skipton to Grassington on Sundays and Bank Holidays. However a new service 872 will run from Burnley, Colne and Skipton to Grassington, providing a mainly hourly service between Skipton and Grassington during the day.
From 18th April 2011, NYCC will also withdraw funding from service X59, which runs between Harrogate and Skipton on Mondays to Saturdays. A reduced service of two return journeys will be provided commercially by Transdev Harrogate & District, but Bolton Bridge will no longer be served.
Details of these services are available online at www.dalesbus.org
From 16th May the Hawes Town and Village Bus service will be revised, with the service operated by the Wensleydale Community Partnership in place of Little Red Bus. Details of the new service will be available shortly.
