        This is the perfect starting point for a choice of easy or more strenuous walks around the Washburn Reservoirs.

Alight from the X59 bus from Harrogate or Skipton for access to Fewston and Swinsty Reservoirs (toilets at Fewston Reservoir on the Timble side of the embankment bridge - no other facilities) or follow the path by the river Washburn upstream to Thruscross Reservoir.

There is also a fine walk from Blubberhouses over the Barden Fell Access Area via Rocking Stones to Bolton Abbey (website opens in new window).

There is an inn (Hopper Lane Hotel) half a mile (c. 1km) west of Blubberhouses along the A59 – pavement access.

  • Bus 802 - running between Wakefield and Richmond on Selected Summer Sundays
