Bus Service Destinations - Long Stay

Good ideas for places to stay for a few days without a car in the Yorkshire Dales

In this section, we’ve selected nine destinations which we can recommend as especially good places to stay for a few days if you’d like to explore an area without a car. Not only do these towns and villages offer you plenty to see and do locally but there’s also a very good choice of public transport available to explore your chosen dale.

Each entry gives details of the facilities you can expect find there, including details of local walks and cycle rides, and links to accommodation as well as local bus and train services both to get you there and to get you around when you arrive.

Even if you do visit these destinations with your car, don’t forget that it can be fun to give your car a rest. Rather than being confined to circular walks from the car park, why not take a bus or train to the next village or even further and then walk back to your accommodation? It can be a far more rewarding way of exploring the countryside – and it’s good for the environment too! For details of a selection of linear walks why not take a look at the Walking section of this website?

Of course there are lots of other great Dales destinations which are well worth a visit and are accessible by public transport. We’ve given details of over 30 of these in Destinations – short stay. If you don’t have your own transport, these locations may be better for a short overnight or day visit, as they tend to have less facilities or more limited access.
